Pachira Aquatica – Money Tree

Pachira aquatica is a sought-after tree that adapts extremely well to being grown indoors. Under fengshui, a properly placed Pachira aquatica in the home or office will create positive energy/chi, bringing prosperity and good luck. Pachiras grow in marshes and river beds in Central America. they can be twenty metres tall. Pachiras are happiest in a warm and bright spot.

Temperature :Pachira aquatica is content in average household conditions: between 16-24°C. Avoid exposing your Pachira to temperatures below 10°C.

Lighting preference : Prefers bright, indirect light but will tolerate light shade. Avoid direct sunlight. Thrives under fluorescent office lights.

 Irrigation of water : Water when the soil of your Money Tree has become slightly dry at the top. Avoid overwatering as this can lead to root rot.

 Humidity : The Money Tree likes increased humidity levels. Mist regularly or relocate to a typically steamy room such as the bathroom or kitchen.

Fertilization and feeding :Feed once a month with a balanced fertiliser during the growing period.

 Soil : Use a quick draining potting soil. If the soil is too heavy, add sand to the mix to help it drain faster.

Toxicity : This plant is considered non-toxic. Safe around children and pets.

 Pot Size : Keeping a Money Tree in a small pot controls its size and is essential when growing it as a bonsai plant. If you want a taller and larger plant, repot as soon as the roots have filled the existing container.

Pruning :Cut off a few of the larger leaves from the bottom of a Money Tree plant each month to encourage new growth at the top. Pinch back the growing tips at the ends of branches to keep the plant small.

Diseases : Be on the look out for Leaf spot, a fungal disease that causes leaf spots and other damage. The disease can be prevented by quickly removing any diseased leaves that fall off, watering well and then not watering again until the soil has dried out somewhat, and keeping the leaves dry. Commercial Fungicide sprays usually help control the problem.
