Kalanchoes are popular succulent houseplants with long-lasting blooms. If you want a succulent houseplant that blooms, well then, let me introduce you to the Kalanchoe , Florist Kalanchoe, or Flaming Katy.

Perhaps you’ve seen one but never brought it home. I want to encourage you to do that because they’re easy to grow and are in bloom for quite a long time. Here’s how to care for flowering kalanchoes & get them to bloom again.

They’re grown in a wide range of colors; most of them are vibrant hues like yellow, pink, magenta, orange, and red. No shrinking violets here! Around the holidays you can more readily find them in white. The foliage makes a statement too because it’s glossy green and the leaves are quite large.

Temperature :

Thrives in average household temperatures between 15–23°C. Avoid exposure below 10°C.

Lighting preference :

Prefers bright, indirect light. The more light it receives, the better and longer it blooms.

 Irrigation of water :

Water when the top half of the soil has dried out. As a succulent, it tolerates drought better than overwatering.

 Humidity :

Not demanding. Grows well in normal indoor humidity levels.

Fertilization and feeding :

Feed with a balanced fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during the active growth and flowering season (spring and summer).

 Flowering :

Produces abundant, vibrant flowers (red, pink, yellow, orange, or white) that last for weeks, making it a long-blooming decorative plant.

 Soil :

Requires well-draining soil. A cactus or succulent mix is ideal.

 Toxicity :

Toxic if ingested by pets (cats and dogs). Keep out of their reach.

 Pot Size :

Grows well in small pots. Repot gradually when roots fill the container.

Pruning :

Remove faded flowers to encourage new blooms. Trim leggy stems to maintain a compact, bushy shape.

 Diseases :

Watch out for root rot from overwatering, and pests such as aphids or mealybugs.

 Air Purification :

Contributes slightly to air quality, but mainly valued as a decorative flowering plant
