Cordyline “Kiwi” Plant

Cordyline fruticosa ‘Kiwi’ also known as the Good luck plant. This pacific native is a very popular house plant because of it’s attractive textured leaves and distinct colouration, each green leaf has a beautiful pink striped margin with a splash of creamy yellow.

In warm climates in produces mauve flowers and bright red berries.

A great plant to brighten up any corner of a room or an office environment.

Temperature: The ideal temperature is ± 20ºC (room temperature). Ensure that the temperature (even in winter) does not fall below 15ºC. Keep the plant well moist

Light Preference : Give the plant a light, sunny place. Avoid direct sunlight in the hottest months

Electrical lighting: All plants need light, but this cordyline will thrive even in quite low light – most rooms in the house will be suitable. It is happy at a normal room temperature (above 15C) and will bring a splash of colour to its surroundings.

Irrigation of water: In the spring and summer when the plant is growing, water regularly when the top of the soil is dry. In the winter when the plant is resting, your plant will need less water.

Humidity : The Cordyline likes a high humidity .To have a long-lasting pleasure from this plant, you can spray it regularly .

Fertilization and feeding: Give plant food with the irrigation water once a month . House plants should be fed regularly between March and September when they are in active growth. The plant can be repotted if it becomes too large.

Problem solving:

Brown tips to the leaves are the result of a dry atmosphere, try giving you plant a good misting and water more regularly.

Over time the lower leaves will tend to dry up and turn brown, remove these to keep your plant looking tidy.

Water freely between spring and autumn using tepid rainwater where possible, and allowing the pot to drain well after each watering. In winter, reduce watering but do not allow the compost to dry out.

Cordyline appreciates a humid atmosphere – stand it on a tray filled with pebbles and water. As the water evaporates it will increase humidity around the plant. The lower leaves of Cordyline will naturally die back as the plant grows. These should be carefully removed, to maintain a tidy appearance.
