An attractive and easy to grow houseplant. They are fairly hardy and don’t require a lot of water. They provide wonderful colour and foliage all year round. Also, a member of the Cordyline fruticosa group, which are used in Hawaii to make grass skirts.
Temperature: Normal household temperatures are fine.
Light Preference :well suited to fairly bright, but indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight.
Electrical lighting: It can also tolerate lower light conditions for some time, such as some shade or filtered light.
Irrigation of water: Glauca plants require moderate watering. They are best allowed to dry down to an inch or two below the surface, before being given a thorough watering and left to dry again.
Humidity : The Glauca likes a high humidity .To have a long-lasting pleasure from this plant, you can spray it regularly .
Fertilization and feeding: New plants do not need fedding for the first 6 months; but after that they should be fed every other month during their growing period, using a houseplant fertilizer.
Problem solving:
Watch out for white mealy bugs on the underside of the leaf. If found the leaves can be treated with insecticidal soap or a solution of rubbing alcohol and water.
Brown tips to the leaves are the result of a dry atmosphere, try giving you plant a good misting and water more regularly.
Over time the lower leaves will tend to dry up and turn brown, remove these to keep your plant looking tidy.
Water freely between spring and autumn using tepid rainwater where possible, and allowing the pot to drain well after each watering. In winter, reduce watering but do not allow the compost to dry out.
Cordyline appreciates a humid atmosphere – stand it on a tray filled with pebbles and water. As the water evaporates it will increase humidity around the plant. The lower leaves of Cordyline will naturally die back as the plant grows. These should be carefully removed, to maintain a tidy appearance.
